Inner Calm
Welcome to Avenir! This brand new condominium unit was treated to a series of personalization, including a complete overhaul to both of its bathrooms. The goal was to create a Japanese sanctuary for its new owners. We took inspiration from the Japanese concept of Seijaku [静寂] to achieve a sense of tranquility, stillness and inner calm.
The design language speaks of simplicity and minimalism, employing the use of ivory oak veneer throughout the house. Layers of depth and detailing were introduced through the use of “shoji screens”, modified by replacing Japanese paper with wood veneer alongside the customized lattice designs.
In the living room, the shoji screen inspired wall juxtapose the natural veneer panels on the ceiling and walls, gently nudging the simplicity in the space. Hidden in this wall are storage cabinets around the TV and the entrance to the bedrooms within.
